EnviroMetro November Update

  • We caused a bit more ruckus at this past month’s Metro Board meetings by insisting that highway projects be evaluated according to their impact to Vehicle Miles Travelled in order to make informed decisions about long-term congestion relief. Our argument is laid out in this letter. We’ll be meeting with Metro staff in the beginning of January to try to resolve this issue.
  • We participated in a Los Angeles County Council of Governments and Subregion Forum, where we shared our vision for connecting piecemeal build-outs of active transportation infrastructure into a regional network, as well as putting stipulations on local return money so that storm water management and the urban heat island effect are taken into consideration when laying down new pavement. See Investing in Place’s recap of the event here.
